Track Name: Lou Andreas
Lou Andreas-Salomé was a Russian-born
lady / And every time I think about you I
think about her
I speak the truth let me tell you her story /
Born in St-Petersburg in the 19 th century /
And ever since we think about her we miss
what she has done

Underneath her fur coat there was a skin so
white and so thin you could see her veins /
Make you need so much to be kin that she
would lead your aims
Well I tell you pal when she was through with
you / You where good for the dogs / You
where one of the few / And no matter how
you cope with that / You’d be the one who’s
set back

And she’d say: If you have no more happiness
to give, then give me your pain / Couple of
correspondences, couple of dried flowers,
then give me your pain

I speak the truth, she makes me think about
you / The way you make them your dog /
The way you leave them blue / And what’s
unique about both of you gals It’s the one
you choose

I speak about you, can’t you see / The rest
you leave behind, they’ll be known for years /
And no matter how you cope with that, you’ll
be remembered for tears
Track Name: Brass n' Wind
Brass n’ wind, brass n’ wind / Make a joyful
noise, you’re lucky to be alive / Brass n’ wind,
brass n’ wind / Lots of them didn’t make it,
you’re lucky to be alive

I was just drivin’ with just two wheels in a
land that wasn’t mine / And it’s just crazy
just how everythin’ turned out to be out of
sight / Everybody ask you how ‘you doin’?
They mean it they don’t want any fuss /
Celebration in the oaks, celebration of the
dead, c’mon just get lost /

I saw an old marchin’ band which was crossin’ a road with
nothin’ alive / Another marchin’ band which
was hustlin’ at nighttime in front of a garage

I’ve made a long road to hear a little bit of
my tone, found out it was gone / But you
can feel it in the name of the streets; they
write their fame at your feet /

They might have a black man at the white house, have
stopped splitting people up in buses / Makes
no difference at all when there’s no white
in the ride except for photographers in the
streetcars
Track Name: Mind as Shelter
Me I’m blinded by the right / Me I’m blinded
by the good / Me I’m blinded by the beauty
/ Me ho my, high as a kite / We are blendin’
by the right / We are blendin’ by the good /
We are blendin’ with the beauty / We ho my,
high as a kite

I’m gonna tell it right to your head / Right
between you young and the bed

It’s a shelter / We’re a shelter / Fall out shelter
/ Fall out Shelter

We who live without the right / We who live
without the good / We who live without the
beauty / We know why, high as a kite / We
don’t wait to see the right / We don’t wait
to see the good / We don’t wait to see the
beauty / We react high as a kite
Track Name: Ruff Skin Roommate
The land / I’m livin’ in / It’s a cold one / It’s
a ruff skin / But the woman / I am livin’ with
/ It’s a warm one / It’s a ruff skin / She’s not
my gal / She my kin / These are ruff times /
So we live in sin

Ruff skin roommate / I said ruff skin roommate

There’s a huge difference / Between wants
and needs / I’ve never been good with this /
So I keep us in need / Money’s always tight /
So she shares the fight / Doesn’t blame me
but she knows / Money don’t bring the hype
/ She’s not my gal’ / She my kin / These are
ruff times / So we live in sin

Maybe she likes it that way / Maybe she
enjoys it too / What we have and what we are
/ Isn’t it good for you? / I mean enough for
you? / Is it enough for you? / I expect more
and more and more / I mean of me and you /
You’re not my gal’ / You my kin! / These are
ruff times / So we live in sin
Track Name: Get me some Land
I’ve felt grounded since a couple of months,
/ Grounded like I never was, / Grounded as
I never thought, / But a couple years have
gone in smoke like a blunt

Lots of them were a waste, were a tie / But
as soon as I’ve dared to choke / I’ve been
going straight as an arrow flight. / With roots
like a blackjack oak

Who knows what I’d do / If I could get me
some land

I still wish I could learn to share, / I still wish
I could learn to write / But I’ve been learning
the pick n’ shovel / Since now my blood runs
with the heat of the light

The shortest straw was not in my hand / I’m
not begging any mercy, hey! / Tell you the
truth I feel like a cat / Working for the CIA

I don’t know when I don’t know why, / I’m not
even sure I’m gonna die / Being grounded I
can handle wild / While keepin’ it steady with
my wife
Track Name: #4
Some red headed strangers are washing
the theater’s facade / I think to myself they
should have spent on the marquee instead
The Antique has two floors by now / Cause
all the president’s wives want to travel in time
/ But they don’t, no they don’t, no they don’t,
don’t know how
The vege-bohemian full of pillows with
morrocan tea coffee shop/Co-op / Is still not
open at eleven O’clock / I reckon’ they’re too
busy drawing on papers / Political, political,
political, political thoughts
The pawnshop still makes a livin’ by goin’
bankrupt then bankrupt / And I’m sure that
old brewery across the bridge will burn again
and again / Ain’t no use, ain’t no use, ain’t no
use to call the cops
Revisiting the museum I cross the path of two
stories of mine / They made a lot of sense
but got no structures / Do I get, do I get, do
I get better in time?
Indeed if I agree with one thing it’s the
second: / The incident pushed her to teach /
The dance, the dance, the dance, the dance
with her Chinese suit
The first is blond over brown over red by now
/ I always loved the blond /Her eyes are still
between purple and blue anyhow
Talkin’ painting, eyes, coffee and blues / I
spent the end of the journey / Watching
these faces she draws / I love, I love, I love, I
love how they stare at me
Each and every one is beautiful / Even though
they remind me how / It suits you well, suits
you well to be sad
Track Name: Second Hand Man
I was born in Noranda in 1988 / I was born in
Noranda in 1988 / And there is nothin’ special
‘bout that place / And there is nothin’ special
‘bout that year / Nothin’ special about me

Except that little outlaw that I met two years
ago / Except that little outlaw that I met two
years ago / I was a second hand man before
she stole my soul

First thing I said you keep your hair so short
/ Little girl I see you keep your hair so short
/ Maybe you like girls but that’s all right I like
them too

Tell your Ma I’ll drop my coat in the mud
in front of you / Tell your Ma I’ll drop my
coat in the mud in front of you / Yes I’m old
fashioned; I know what a gentleman should
do

She stood there with a grin, left me without
any clue / She stood there with a grin asking
herself if I knew / That it was her old man
who was singin’ out of tune

She said shut up, show me your pick up and
we’ll see what we can do / Shut up, show me
your pick up and we’ll see what we can do
/ I said I ride a bicycle, hope that’s all right
with you
And she said yeah
Track Name: The Handsome
He is a tuxedo, as classical as neat / He is a
fox, as physical as meat / And I’ve never met
a man who knew better than him / How to
wear a moustache with a modern swing

There’s a mystery hiding in his tongue / Which
he used to make old maids feel so young /
He’s to blame for the fame of tobacco sticks
/ He made younger generations look for that
kick

He’ll take your pride and clean it up with mud
/ He won’t give you a dime but he might give
you a job

He’s got the Bossa Nova’s Elenco tone / His
skin has a milk chocolate of its own / He
can beat the clock; beat the rock, the lock
all alone / Ain’t got no subordinate, doesn’t
wait on ringtones

He can’t stand mumbo jumbo he is a
musicologist / He is snazzy but strict and he
never uses his fist / The throb of his heart
goes like boom boom pow / He used to play
the drums now he won’t remember how

His outlook on life is as heavy as light / His
thoughts come “mod cons”, everything is
black or white / He likes to share it all, sippin’
some wine / And if you listen carefully, some
grey you’ll find
Track Name: Sweet Sour Friends
Like a chill and a pyjama, like kids and Coca
Cola, that’s all right / Like fish and raw, like
cars and Pa, that’s all right / Like ink and
feather, like a beginning and a capital letter,
that’s all right / Swinging with the noise,
Jesus what a choice, but that’s all right

Sweet sour friends; so hard to deal with the
end / Sweet sour friends; what you gonna do
then? / Sweet sour friends; so hard to deal
with the end / Sweet sour friends; what you
gonna do then?

We had that gig that wasn’t a blast, but that’s
all right / The elephant’s so big, we ain’t
gonna make it last, but that’s all right / 90
on the highway, regretting mistakes, that’s all
right / 50 “someday’s “ God it’s all fake, but
that’s all right
